Paul Allan’s
artwork honours the memory of the victims and also reminds
people of reasons that the mining community of Burradon
was unique and living had a special spirit which created
unbreakable bonds between families and friends. The
artwork will be an enduring legacy and will remind future
generations of children of their mining heritage.
Finally, the members of the Burradon and Camperdown
Forum (“Forum”) deserve recognition for
their efforts during the past 13 years and their commitment
to reviving and preserving the village’s mining
heritage. The Forum worked on the project for three
years and raised the £5,500 to commission the
artwork and the medals the children received as memento
of the event.
The memorial event also reminds people of the importance
of partnership and the success of the events is attributable
to the efforts of all the parties involved, The Forum,
school and the church which proves that community spirit
is alive and flourishing in the village.
