Restoring Law & Order (Sep 2006)

In response to resident’s concerns regarding the level of alcohol related anti-social behaviour, Northumbria Police has instigated an operation to target the offenders.

A crawler CCTV camera has been installed on the Front Street next to the Millennium Green to identify the people involved in the incidents.

However, the presence of the camera has moved the problem to other parts of the village consequently Northumbria Police has deployed more resources to the areas.

On Friday 15th September 2006, police seized and disposed of a significant quantity of alcohol and 4 youths were taken home and warned in front of their parents that any future incidents will not be tolerated. One youth has been summonsed to Court for a litter offences and a second will be summoned for public order offences.

Sgt Douglas and Storey have pledged to police the village robustly and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, the quality of life of the residents is Northumbria Police’s principle consideration.

Residents are urged to report any incidents, please telephone 0191-2146555 and ask for the crime and disorder unit. You do not have to provide your name.
