Burradon Primary School November 2007

As Headteacher of Burradon Community Primary School I would like to share a few thoughts with you about the past year.

Since that wonderful day a year ago when the Prime Minister Tony Blair visited us to formally open the new school and recreation centre we have all been working very hard

to make the most of our superb new facilities. With this in mind the staff are now rising to the challenge of giving the children the best possible use of the computer suite, outdoor play areas, sports fields, games areas and modern classrooms.

We have continued the rise in standards in English, mathematics and science this year. The school has an impressive rising pattern of children’s achievement which we are determined to continue. Parents have played a full part in this success through their support and commitment to their children’s futures.

We are also catering for the children’s physical and health well-being. To start the day we have our popular Breakfast Club. There is a wide range of after-school sports clubs which are also available to user-groups from the local community. An involvement in sport is an important part of a child’s education and this was highlighted this year when the Rugby World Cup came to school for everyone to see!

This is all part of the pride we take in caring for and supporting our pupils. The OFSTED inspectors called this provision ‘outstanding’ after their inspection in 2006.

May I thank the parents and members of the local community for their support and assistance, both in this year and in the past. I greatly appreciate your kindness and care.

Finally, may I invite you to our Christmas Fair on Saturday 1st. December starting at 10.00 am. Also I look forward to seeing you at our very popular Christmas Concerts on Wednesday 12th. December at 9.30 am (Foundation Stage & Year 1/2 class) and Tuesday 11th. December at 2.15 pm & Thursday 13th. December at 9.15 am (Year 2/3, 3/4 ,4/5 & 6 classes).
