The
former police house, Station Road, Camperdown |
| The
former police house, Station Road, Camperdown has been a
controversial issue for the past 15 years following the
conviction of its former owner for a serious criminal offence
and problems created for local residents with a series of
attacks by vandals and arsonists (see:http://www.burradon-camperdown.co.uk/EvilHouse.html).
There was a brief glimmer of hope in 2007 with the sale
of the site to SV Rutter Developments Limited and the proposed
development of the site. The plans for the site were rejected
and the land has remained derelict and has become overgrow
and has regularly been used for fly tipping which has enraged
local residents.
North Tyneside Council’s
Planning Enforcement proposed to enforce a Section 215
Notice to compel the owner to remove the overgrown vegetation
and the rubbish which has accumulated on the site. However,
S V Rutter submitted an appeal to the magistrates court
at North Shields against the Section 215 Notice and the
hearing was held on the 13 January 2012. Mr Rutter provided
the court with an undertaking to tidy the site and as
a consequence the hearing was adjourned to provide the
owner with sufficient time to address residents concerns.
